“Lettera 22” is a series of eleven 11” x 14” prints (Image is 9” x 12” with 1” borders) created using the reductive or elimination method of linocut.

This print was inspired by amazing industrial design and my deep love of analog objects. If you are ever in Venice, stop by the Negozio Olivetti under the Procuratie Vecchie. If you peek in the windows, you might see this Leterra 22, which was designed by Marcello Nizzoli. But don’t stop there! Go on inside and enjoy a beautiful space designed by the amazing Carlos Scarpa.

The reductive method of linocut involves a number of color overprints made from a single piece of linoleum, with more of the linoleum being cut away for each overprinted color. By the end of the reductive process, the linoleum is almost entirely carved away and no additional prints can be made.

Note: While the prints are all made from the same piece of linoleum, they contain variations in color and precision.
