“J Pod's Return 2025"

$595.00

“J Pod’s Return 2025” is a series of eleven 7” x 18” prints created using the reductive or elimination method of linocut.  The reductive method of linocut involves a number of color overprints made from a single piece of linoleum, with more of the linoleum being cut away for each overprinted color. By the end of the reductive process, the linoleum is almost entirely carved away and no additional prints can be made. While the prints are all made from the same piece of linoleum, they contain variations in color and precision.

Five prints in the series feature a blue sky and six prints feature a pink sky.

There are currently two framed originals—one pink and one blue—available for sale and in stock at the Old Dockton Press.

The Southern Resident killer whales are a genetically and culturally distinct population of orcas within the Pacific Northwest and consist of three separate pods: J, K, and L Pods.

On September 17, 2025, J Pod visited the Puget Sound for the first time since April. The whales were first spotted by a ferry worker on the Bainbridge Island route around 7:15 a.m. By noontime, they had reached Point Robinson. It was a spectacular southbound pass. There was tail slapping, breaching, and overall joyful behavior. For those on shore, this pass was only the first show. A few hours later, J Pod headed north up Colvos Passage. Lucky Islanders (including me!) were able to see them pass one more time from the west side of Vashon Island as they headed north toward home.

A video of the passes that I took on that lucky day is below.
